Mercedes Schlapp has no easy work in the role of White House adviser for strategic communications. It is not easy for Mercedes Schlapp as the adviser to strategic communications at the White House. Schlapp is, however, never lost focus on her mission. She is in close contact in conjunction with White House political affairs and the legislative team along with policy shops and the wider communications operation in order to ensure that the policies are implemented. The focus is on topics like school safety, opioids, infrastructure and trade. Schlapp isn't involved with journalists often in her current position. The media spotlight was on her in the wake of being announced as an option to succeed Hope Hicks, the communications director. Mercedes Schlapp does not have an easy job as White House strategic communication adviser. Mercedes Schlapp must deal with an administration roiled by a variety of problems, such as a president acting as the president's own communications director as well as Cabinet Secretaries that are caught up in the controversies surrounding their respective departments. But through it all Schlapp remains determined to focus on her task at hand, working closely with the White House's political as well as legislative affairs and policy shops, as well in the communications department to coordinate policy rollouts. Her focus so far has been on matters such as school safety, opioids, infrastructure, and trade. Her current work doesn't have many interactions with reporters. It was in March that she received a flurry of attention, when it became widely known that Schlapp was a potential candidate to replace Hope Hicks's post as director of communication. It hasn't been an easy fight. Schlapp's allies and Tony Sayegh have begun to fight within the press. Schlapp stated to The Washington Examiner that she spoke to Sayegh to discuss the recent article that was negative concerning him.
